St Mary’s Health Centre Unaffected By Doctor’s Strike

Isles of Scilly Health Centre

The Isles of Scilly Health Centre says it’s ‘business as usual’ today despite industrial action by doctors across the country.

Some doctors are taking the action in protest at changes to their pensions, including increased contributions and a rise in the retirement age to 68 years.

But Dr John Garman from our Health Centre said doctors there had taken the decision not to strike today.

He said he disagreed with the Government’s imposition of pension changes on NHS staff, particularly when it’s only recently been reformed.

But Dr Garman said he didn’t feel disrupting patient services is the right way to go about putting that message across.

This is the first industrial action by doctors in nearly 40 years and is not technically a strike as participating doctors will still be attending work and treating urgent and emergency cases.
