St Agnes Residents Raise £5,000 Towards Hall Project

Proposed appearance of St Agnes Hall

Islanders on St Agnes have raised almost £5,000 over the past month towards the cost of the Island Hall project.

The Art Exhibition in the Reading Room, that helped kick off Art Scilly in May, has produced more than £2,300 and pictures are still selling.

The two Jubilee events a week ago together brought in roughly the same figure: the red white and blue knees-up in the Hall on the Saturday more than £700 and Sunday’s Extravaganza on School Hill almost £1,600.

It is understood that structural engineers were on the island last week checking the state of the Hall’s walls, floor and roofing timbers. Archaeologists investigating trenches dug in the paddock behind the Hall found comparatively little of note.

The plan is still for invitations to tender for the refurbishment work on the Hall, which was originally a Bible Christian church, to go out later this month.

The project also includes the construction of a number of small work units.
