Rail Company To Promote Through Tickets To Scilly

Penzance Railway Station

First Great Western Railways are going to do more to promote our islands.

They’re planning to improve their marketing of inclusive rail and boat or air travel tickets.

Three staff from the railway operator, including partnerships manager, Andy Saunders, met up with tourism staff last week on St Mary’s to experience what the islands could offer their customers.

TIC staff member, Sophie Hughes, introduced the group to hoteliers so they could discuss combined travel and accommodation packages. They also visited Phoenix Studio artists.

The Blue Sail tourism consultants’ report recommended that Scilly’s businesses should try and make the purchase of tickets for travel to the islands as simple as possible

Sophie Hughes says she is pleased they want to promote a single transaction for travel.

The package has been around for some years but there isn’t much awareness. It either has to be booked over the phone or through a hard-to-find web page.

Sophie says First Great Western will be increasing the presence of the Isles of Scilly on their website to make it easier to find the through deals.
