Jubilee Big Lunch Being Held At Sports Hall

The Jubilee weekend in Scilly starts tomorrow with a chance to try sporting activities and share a lunch with friends at the new St Mary’s sports hall.

During the day, representatives of the adult and youth football clubs, the judo and badminton groups will be encourage people to have-a-go in free sessions.

There’ll also be a chance to shoot basketball hoops.

Sports hall Manager Tess Lloyd says it’s a good way for the clubs to drum up new membership and encourage sustainability in the club.

For years, the St Austell-based Eden Project has arranged a Big Lunch across West Country venues to encourage a sense of community.

Tomorrow, islanders trying the sports facilities will be asked to bring food in order make it a complete day out.

Tess says the sports hall will be licensed for drink for the event.

They’ve decorated the outside of the hall with patriotic bunting and they’ll provide Jubilee-themed music and red, white and blue paper plates to help mark the occasion.

There will be face painting too.

The sports sessions are free from 11am to 4pm but you’ll need to pay for the gym.
