Cricket: St Martin’s v. St Mary’s

Report by Colin Daly

St.Martin’s first match of the season against St. Mary’s, a T20 on Thursday evening, holds promise for a good season of matches.

There were some minor records and a bail broken. St. Mary’s batted first and were all out before completing their 20 overs for the first time in this correspondent’s memory.

This helped to keep their total down to 138. K Goddard on 67 and J. Francis on 27 were the only batsmen to get into double figures.

Ben Gillet took 4 wickets and Joe Morton 3.

St. Martin’s started slowly and it was not until over half their overs were gone that they started to hit out and an inadequate response looked to have lost them the match.

But a rally in the last seven overs took them to a point where St. Mary’s were rattled and responded to keep the St. Martin’s total down to 126 for 7.

A. Spencer made 59 and C. Bridges 17. T Gilbert and K. Goddard took 2 wickets each.

The other matter to be recorded was that no ball was lost during the match.
