Opening Performance For This Season’s Entertainers

They’ve got almost 90 years experience of putting on shows in Scilly between them.

And the two longest serving members of the Scillonian Entertainers say they are very pleased at how things went on this summer season’s opening night.

Betty Silvester, who was a founder member of the song and sketch group 58 years ago, says the audience seemed to enjoy the new show.

The Town Hall was two thirds full and Betty says that’s good for this time of the year.

The cast have a Jubilee and London theme and Betty, as oldest member, gets to play the Queen.

The production ran for just over two hours on Wednesday night.

June Lethbridge joined over 40 years ago and all of her family have been involved at some stage.

June feels that their version of Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West was this season’s crowd pleaser. David Corners has taken the Bennie Hill role and Gordon Abbott plays Two Tonne Tess.

Tony Dingley has returned to the cast this year after a break too.

June admits that, as a cast member, you can’t enjoy the show too much until it’s over. You’re too busy worrying about remembering your words.

There’ll only be five shows this season because of the difficulty of getting volunteers to commit with other activities on.

Their next show will be the Jubilee Special on Wednesday 6th June and the next Entertainers event will be on the 19th June.

At the end of the run the group with share out ticket money and grant £100 each to members’ favourite good causes.
