ITV Show Seeking Local Food Producers

Isles of Scilly food producers are being sought for an ITV show to air in the autumn.

The programme, The Hungry Sailors, featuring father and son, Dick and James Strawbridge is about to start shooting its second series. They’ll be sailing along the Cornish coast and over to Scilly, in an historic pilot cutter, stopping off at ports and harbours along the way.

Trina Lake from production company Denhams says the idea is for the pair to meet local fishermen, farmers and food producers while getting hands-on experience.

Trina says the episode usually ends up with them cooking a dinner on board their boat for the food producers they’ve met, with the items they’ve been given.

The show will also explore the heritage and history of the places they visit.

The second series of 30 one-hour programmes will be based in Cornwall, the Scillies and the Channel Islands and Trina says she’d love to hear from anyone on the islands who might be a potential contributor, especially anyone who makes anything traditionally Scillonian.

Dick and James also love to get involved with the local community, says Trina, and she’s looking for opportunities to get them cooking for groups and organisations on the islands. Gig crews are obviously a must, she adds, but she’s keen to explore other ideas too.

She said the presenters are also very competitive and, if there is an opportunity for them to make something that could be judged by their guests or groups, she’d love to know about it.

They’re likely to base two or three programmes in the Scillies, depending on the number and variety of food producers they can find to take part.

The crew had initially hoped to come in August but, says Trina, having been made aware that this is a busy time for many here, they’ve moved filming back until September, provisionally from 10th to 20th.

Trina says anyone interested in taking part should contact her on 01752 345444 or email
