NHS To Hold Public Meeting On Health Reforms

If you’re confused about the changes planned for the NHS, there’ll be a chance to find out more at a public meeting on the 27th June.

‘It’s Your NHS: be part of it!’ is the theme for the event, being set up by Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group, the group that will take over from NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly next April.

The Primary Care Trust is being disbanded under the Government’s health reforms but will remain accountable for NHS services locally until then.

The public event is an opportunity for local residents to meet the GPs leading the reforms locally and hear first-hand about their vision for improving patient care.

It’s also a chance to hear more about the new Health and Wellbeing Board being established to serve the Isles of Scilly and to ensure better co-ordination of services across agencies.

Jane Hurd, representing the islands’ health watchdog, LINk4Scilly said: “I’m pleased that these public information exercises are being held, and that Scilly, with its own unique problems due to location and travel issues, has not been forgotten.

“From feedback LINk receives, we are well cared for here in the main, but as in any other field, there is always scope for change for the better as time passes.”

Kernow CCG recently announced its 10 key outcome areas for focus in for the coming year. These include patient safety, as well as better treatment for people with long-term conditions and mental health issues.

The NHS received criticism over its mental health provision for the islands in a recent survey published by LINk.

Jane said LINk will become Local Healthwatch once the new bodies take over, and she said they are looking forward to constructive dialogue and working with the new CCG to improve the patients’ experience.

The public meeting will take place on 27th June in the Town Hall on St Mary’s, 2.00pm-3.30pm.
