Emotional Day For Islands’ Olympic Torch Bearers

Duncan Graham with the Olympic Torch

Islander Duncan Graham says that being one of Scilly’s two torchbearers in the Olympic relay in Penzance today was an emotional experience he will never forget.

Duncan was nominated by members of the Five Islands School football club to carry the flame.

Every runner has his or her own torch and Duncan says he’ll bring his back to Scilly. He wants to have it displayed in the sports hall.

He says he has done it for the community and that’s where it belongs.

Lesley Thomas is the Islands’ other torchbearer.

The guides, brownies and rainbows are set to greet Lesley with a congratulatory banner when she returns home on Monday on the Scillonian III.

The school is closed on Monday and guide member, Fiona Robson says she’d also like children who attend Lesley’s dance classes to turn up and congratulate her.
