St Agnes Residents Launch Island Hall Fund Raising

Proposed appearance of St Agnes Hall

The launch event of St Agnes’s fund-raising bid to help pay for the Island Hall refurbishment project comes this weekend.

An Art Exhibition, which also helps kick off Art Scilly, is being held in the Reading Room on School Hill.

Doors are open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am till 6pm.

The exhibition features island jewellery and sculpture as well as paintings. Local artists whose work is being showcased include Imogen Bone, Emma Eberlein, Caroline Gillett, Vickie Heaney, Fay Page, Rebecca Smith and Richard Pearce.

Various Cornish artists are also on display including Sue Lewington, now based in west Cornwall, Sasha Harding, Barrie Bray, Tom Holland and Robert Jones.

For would-be purchasers on either Saturday or Sunday prices range from £2 to £2000. Cash or cheques will be accepted.

The Island Hall project, which also involves the creation of a number of work units set behind the former Bible Christian church, gained planning permission last month.

Expressions of interest in tendering for the scheme are likely to be sought in June. Finalisation of grant applications for Local Action Group and European Regional Development Fund money is already under way.

It is intended that the building contract will include an opportunity for islanders on Agnes and other local builders to participate. Work on site could start as early as October.
