Lifeboat Called To Yacht

St Mary's lifeboat 'The Whiteheads'

The St Mary’s Lifeboat was called out just after 6am this morning.

Falmouth Coastguard received a call from a solo sailor travelling to the start of a race in Ireland.

He thought he had seen a 12 metre yacht adrift with nobody on board.

RNLB The Whiteheads was dispatched to the vessel, Mini 219, between St Mary’s and the Seven Stones but once there, they found two people on board. They just weren’t visible.

Falmouth Coastguard say the incident was a false alarm with good intent.

RNLI spokesman, Steve Watt, said they don’t mind getting calls like this where there was an obvious concern, even if it proved to be a false alarm.
