Film Maker Looking For St Agnes Actor

st agnesThe search is on for an islands’ actor to star in a short film being made as part of a Virgin-backed movie-making contest.

You’d need to be able to play the role of a 50-60 year old farmer.

Director, freelance filmmaker Dan Hodgson, has been coming to St Agnes since the 70s and he worked on the island for three summers before college.

Dan wants to produce a short film set on his favourite place in the world. He’s going to enter into the Virgin Short Film Competition, which limits films to two minutes in length.

Dan doesn’t think the two-minute time limit will restrict his creativity saying you can tell a story in any amount of time and pointing to adverts as a good example of that.

The role is minimal-speaking, but you’ll need to be able to act, without being “hammy” says Dan. He needs someone who can commit to a day of filming on St Agnes, possibly two if the weather is bad and he’ll cover all travel expenses.

Dan is currently producing films about a composer who has been commissioned to compose an orchestra piece in Aldeburgh, Suffolk and which will feature as part of the cultural Olympiad.

And he says there could be more films set on St Agnes in the future. Dan says he’d love to do a feature film here in the future.

Dan could do a feature film right now; the material’s there. What about an Erin Brockovic style number on the valiant war being waged by Mike ‘Justice’ Brown, Todd ‘The Walthamstow Wanderer’ Stevens and ‘Cassandra’? Three men (we think, the jury’s out on Cass) against the system. The replacement of food with gruel in Park House could be the starting point.

Right, fit the age group near enough, I’ll start the ball rolling by offering to have a go…how about a female farmer?
