Cruise Ship Cancels Visit Due To Weather

The Marco Polo

The second of the larger cruise ships expected in Scilly has cancelled today’s visit because of the weather.

Last night, the St Mary’s Harbourmaster Dale Clark was informed that the Captain of the Azamara had decided to sail to Falmouth as he doubted whether passengers would be able to get ashore if they came to Scilly.

Dale says he wished the decision could have been delayed until today as he feels it would have been possible but undertstands that the Captain made the decision with passenger safety in mind.

Dale told us this morning that he was disappointed as his team was expecting 580 visitors. On April 29th the Marco Polo cancelled a visit at the last minute.

The Azamara is due to return on May 31st and August 4th.

Two smaller cruise ships, The Quest and the Island Sky will be in Scilly’s waters tomorrow.

Dale says St Mary’s is still set to receive 40 cruise ship visits this season.
