Porthloo Property Can Add Balcony

Glandore at Porthloo

A holiday flat at Porthloo can have a guest balcony.

The owners of Glandore asked for the additional outdoor area measuring 4m wide by 1.5m deep for their two bedroom, second floor holiday flat.

Mr and Mrs Morris have three holiday units and two already have balconies. They wrote to planners to say that those units have a longer rental season and the additional outdoor space would improve the islands’ tourism offer.

They pointed out that the holidays lets were covered by a section 106 agreement, which prevents them from selling off their units separately to their home, when the change from a guest house was passed in 1999. The couple say they need to do what they can to maintain the rental income.

Stephen Hicks who maintains and winters boats opposite Glandore wrote to planners to say that he wasn’t opposed to the application but some Porthloo residents have complained about the noise of boatyard work in the past.

He was concerned that more people sitting outdoors could be exposed to noise, dust or colourful language when things go wrong and that could lead to more complaints and petitions.

Planning consultant Bill Wilson recommended acceptance and members agreed.
