Police Plan For Quiet Gig Weekend

Gig weekend is living up to its reputation of being one of the safest and best behaved sporting events in the region.

St Mary’s police say there were no incidents in the town last night, despite the fact that pubs were busy and there’s an estimated 7000 people here this weekend for the championships.

That’s more than three times the resident population.

PC Mat Collier reports that there were few noise issues but some alcohol was confiscated from underage drinkers.

The Police Inspector for our Islands, Jean Philips , who is also working here this weekend, says she’s reducing policing numbers because she doesn’t predict any problems.

Two additional police officers are coming over today, a day later than planned and two of them will be returning to Cornwall on Monday instead of Tuesday as originally planned.
