Granite Boulder Results In New Planning Application

Planners have approved a St Martin’s residents’ creative plan to extend his home around a difficult granite boulder.

Officers granted consent for an extension of Crow’s Nest in Lower Town two years ago but a massive rock has proved a stumbling block.

Members have approved a solution which would see a lounge and sitting area of approximately 6m by 5m built around the rock, boxing it in.

Councillor John Goddard thought the scheme would result in a terrible amount of hard work but he supported it as did his island colleague, Councillor Chris savil

Chris said it was borderline and on the margins, a point shared by planners and as the property has been subject to a number of planning approvals, she wanted this to be the last size increase for the cottage.
