Museum Holding Special Open Day

The Museum on St Mary's

The Isles of Scilly Museum is holding a special open day tomorrow (Tuesday).

Kathy Banfield from the museum says staff and volunteers will be available to talk about the exhibits and provide guidance to visitors.

She said there is always an interest in their work on shipping on the islands, including a database on people and companies involved in shipbuilding and the shipping industry as well as prints and photos of shipwrecks off our coast.

Kathy said there is particular interest in the Torrey Canyon wreck at the moment.

The museum also has a large collection of old photographs and Kathy says visitors can see how buildings on the islands have changed over the years.

Kathy runs the museum’s Family History Group and she said this will be a great opportunity for anyone researching their ancestors to come in and study the records as there will be someone there to help.

The museum will be open from 10.00am to 3.00pm and entry will be free.
