Sailing Club Hold AGM

St Mary’s Sailing Club held their AGM last night with several changes on the committee and a and a few new faces joining the team.

The new Commodore will be former Secretary, Mark Underwood replacing Truan Hick who stood down at the meeting

Truan was thanked for his efforts over recent years, and will be helping organise the club’s communications.

Iain McCulloch becomes the new Secretary, with Ian Sibley as Treasurer and Keith Buchanan as Race Officer.

Richard Mills will be Principal Safety Officer, with Clair Lewis looking after Kayaks

The important role of Social Secretary went to Becky Pearson

Mark described the meeting as “very productive.”

He told us membership fees were held at last years level for the third year running and membership forms will be available for download on the club’s website in a few days.

Club members will shortly be canvassed about the best evening for adult racing and whether it is appropriate to change from Tuesdays.

Mark said, “We look forward to a full and entertaining race season this year with regular race nights as well as the annual Round Island Race. We also hope to run a number of other races throughout the summer.”

A date has been set for a further working party to finish readying the clubhouse and boats.

This will be at 6.00pm on Wednesday 9th May 2012 and Mark says all help will be much appreciated.

Club sessions will commence shortly after this. And the club hope to run adult beginner and improver sessions on Saturday afternoons, as well as junior sailing on Monday evenings.

“We would like to encourage all members to get involved in their club and look forward to welcoming new members,” said Mark.
