New PTA Chairman Elected

New PTA Chair, Sam Mallon

The school PTA has a new Chairman. Sam Mallon has taken on the role and says her goal is to increase the profile of the parents and teachers group.

Sam says not all islanders realise that the group fundraise for events, rewards or teaching resources for which there is no official budget.

Sam says the PTA will be buying those little extras that make a difference, from flags for all kids for the jubilee, to book and PE bags to mark the nursery children’s entry into school.

They’ve also provided £200 for year 8 and 10 art groups to visit Tresco, £150 towards the Bugsy Malone production the children are putting on and £200 for the library expansion.

Sam says they want to work much more closely with the school and they’d like suggestions for some bigger projects that they can fundraise towards.

The group is planning an extensive programme of activity over the summer including providing refreshments for May Day and continued support for the Sands neonatal bereavement charity, with an after-school clothing sale on 25th May.
