Tighter Security At Airport and Heliport

St Mary's Airport

Tighter passenger security could be introduced this summer at St Mary’s Airport and Tresco Heliport.

Yesterday, managers met with Detective Constable Whyte a Special Branch Officer in Newquay, to discuss increasing the frequency of identity checks.

It’s part of Project Pegasus, a national counter-terrorism strategy which is being ramped up heading into the Jubilee weekend and London Olympics.

It’s been recommended that check-in staff check photographic proof for all travellers, even locals, and that more questions are asked of people who take a one way air ticket after arrival by yacht.

Staff are also being encourage to quiz anyone trying to pay for a fare at the airport with cash.

Dave Page of British International Helicopters says it’s been confirmed that the company’s travel club photo cards are acceptable.
