Lifeboat Guild Aiming To Buy New Jackets

St Mary's Lifeboat Station

St Mary’s Lifeboat crew should have new lifejackets by the end of the year, if their supporters bring in enough money.

And the Ladies Lifeboat Guild will have to work harder to do it as they are handing over one of their better fundraisers, the Gig Weekend Sunday refreshment sales, to the Guides for one year only.

The girls need to raise money for their trip to a Diamond Jubilee camp in Buckinghamshire.

Ce Hicks said she was pleased to see some new faces at the Guild AGM at The Mermaid.

And new input brings new ideas. This year the group is planning a cream tea and croquet event in September.

The regular Lifeboat Open Day will be held on July 1st and there’ll be a flag day on July 25th along with a number of craft sales. Just under £11,000 was raised by those sales.

St Mary’s events are managed by Claire Jenkins with Mandy Williams and Eddie Birch looking after St Martins and Tresco events, respectively.

Around £1,500 was brought in from collection boxes last year and that goes towards the £10,149 total for donations and events.

It was bolstered by the inter-islands low-tide walk sponsorship, the School SOS fundraising and the sale of flowers for May Day.

The flowers were donated by Whittaker flowers.
