Scillonian III Makes Journey On Single Engine

The Scillonian III

The Scillonian III made the journey to the Isles of Scilly yesterday with just one engine, instead of the usual two.

A spokesman for the Steamship Company said the Scillonian III engineers discovered a small fuel leak within one main engine yesterday, which over a longer period would dilute the lubricating oil.

As the weather was fine and the vessel can safely operate on one engine, the Master decided to sail as planned.

The fault was repaired during the passage and the vessel made the return journey to Penzance running with two engines, arriving approx 15 minutes behind schedule.

Well I think that is pretty good – it wasn’t drifting with no engines, so no problem really!
