Woman’s Dream Of Serving Thai Food Becomes Real

A woman who has been dreaming of opening a Thai restaurant in Scilly for years has finally been given the chance to show her culinary skills.

Pom Ellis, who moved to Scilly from Thailand 11 years ago, has joined the team at Tolman Cafe where they’ll be serving her food every day alongside more familiar British favourites.

And in another first for Scilly, Pom’s Thai food will be available for take away and delivery.

Pom started her catering career in Bangkok, cooking for the Thai army and recently went back to her home country to learn more about the local cuisine.

She tries to cook her Thai food in the most authentic way possible although she’s toned down the heat to suit local tastes. And she’s had to go as far as Birmingham to obtain the specialist ingredients she needs.

Pom spent time cooking in Schooner’s Hotel two years ago and visitors at the time told her they loved her dishes. That led her to try setting up a restaurant from her home on Garrison Lane but the planning application was withdrawn through technicalities.

So Pom says she’s delighted to finally get the chance to cook after dreaming of it for years.
