Traditional Easter Ceremony To Take Place At Buzza

Members of the Anglican and Methodist church congregation on St Marys will be getting up early tomorrow to celebrate Easter Sunday with the sunrise service on Buzza Hill.

The traditional event, where a cross is taken up to Buzza on Good Friday and remains until Easter Sunday, has been held for years.

A service will take place at 6.30am tomorrow, followed by breakfast at the Manse.

Revered Charlie Gibbs will share the service with Canon Peter Walker.

Charlie says the event is very special and important to both locals and visitors. And he thinks it’s particularly poignant here in Scilly, because it takes place next to the sea, which in many ways is similar to the original Easter story.

It’s a significant and joyful event for people with faith, says Charlie, and he feels it is the highlight of the year.
