No Problems With Incinerator Says Council

The Council’s Technical Services Department says the new conveyor belt fitted over winter is working correctly.

This follows rumours that the new £21,000 belt is broken and would need to be returned to the mainland.

Chief Technical Officer, Neville Gardner, says a couple of chain scraper elements, components that draw ash out of the plant, have broken. These are attachments on the belt rather than being part of the belt itself.

Neville says the plant continues to operate and a supply of the chain attachments are kept as spares which it is possible to replace without any significant delay or the need to power-down the plant.

He says the supplier of the belt has been advised and has confirmed that the assembly will be replaced should the problem continue and if replacement is required sometime in the future it should not involve significant downtime.
