Islands’ Mail Boat Undergoes Major Overhaul

The Swift Lady

The boat responsible for delivering Royal Mail post around the Islands has undergone a major overhaul after six years of service.

The Swift Lady rigid inflatable boat is operated by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company to carry Royal Mail to and from St Mary’s and the Off-Islands.

During the past six years, the vessel has completed approximately 3,800 trips around the Islands, year-round and in all weathers, delivering and collecting mail as well as some perishable foods.

The Swift Lady has undergone general hull repairs and upgrades, carried out by Falmouth Boat Construction and with new tubes being fitted by Henshaw Inflatables Ltd of Wincanton.

Kevin Ayres, Marine Superintendent at the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group said, “The Swift Lady provides a vital service to the Isles of Scilly.

“The repairs and upgrades mean that she is now ready for several more years of service to the Islands.”
