Abbey Gardens To Showcase At Flower Show

Tresco's Abbey Garden

Tresco Estate is set to showcase the Abbey Gardens at the 100th Cornwall Garden Society Flower Show.

Curator Mike Nelhams says his team wanted to attend the 2-day event at Boconnoc House near Lostwithiel because Thomas Algernon Dorrien Smith attended the first one a century ago.

The shows were held at the former Truro City Hall and later Carlyon Bay.

Mike says many attendees of shows in Cornwall and Devon say they’d love to visit the Abbey Gardens but haven’t been, so a display of Proteas and images of the estate should reminded flower lovers that Tresco is ‘still here’ and hopefully will tempt people over.

Mike says it’s a shame he can’t go but he’s busy overseeing landscaping and planting around the new holiday cottages on the remodelled Island Hotel site.

Mike first attended as a student under former Curator Peter Clough in the 70s.

Former Island resident Frant Brint and Tresco Marketing Manager Alasdair Moore will attend the show, which runs on Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April.
