Workshops Arranged For Accommodation Owners

Islanders with accommodation businesses are being offered free, expert advice in a series of workshops arranged with the Council’s Tourism Department and funded by the Local Action Group.

The authors of the report into the future of tourism in Scilly, Blue Sail, will share their experiences in marketing at the events and Visit England will show islanders how to clean a room professionally, rather than domestically.

Amanda Pender says it’s become apparent that not everyone was aware of what Blue Sail was recommending in their report.

She says there were some very simple messages, like using the right marketing and language to improve business and increase profit.

So Amanda says it made sense to get Blue Sail back to run some interactive sessions with local businesses.

And Sophie Hughes says cleaning accommodation is different to domestic house cleaning and attendees will get advice on how to do it. She says the advice will be given from the eyes of the inspector and attendees won’t be lectured to.

There is a shortage of businesses in Scilly that take electronic payment, says Sophie, so they’ve arranged for Barclaycard to come over and describe the benefits of using their system.

You don’t have to be a TIC-affiliated business to attend one of the two separate three-hour workshops.

The sessions are behind held on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th March at the Old Wesleyan Chapel.
