Navigational Markers Replaced

The new markers being towed into position

Two replacement navigational marks will be placed on the Rag and Hulman ledges today.

The Rag marker was lost in stormy conditions before Christmas and the Hulman one was deteriorating and needed replacing.

The Duchy of Cornwall is responsible for the markers as the local light authority and Alan Hartwell from the Harbour Office team says they’ll be made of high-grade stainless steel instead of galvanized steel so they should last longer.

The 22 ft high navigational aids, painted green on the starboard and red on the portside, have a solar powered light on top and Clinton Perry has made them to bend with a hinge for easier maintenance.

They were taken from the harbour on part of the pontoon yesterday and should be in place and operational by Sunday evening.
