Island’s Tourism Website To Be Revamped

Tourist Information Centre in Hugh Town

The Islands’ tourism website is being revamped for the start of the season in response to increased demand for online information on Scilly.

Throughout 2011, received 291,480 unique website hits. That’s up just under 20,000 from 2010.

Last year there were 35,597 online viewings of the tourism brochure, which is an increase of around 1200 on 2010.

Councillors have heard that the improved site will be easier for users to search and navigate.

There’s also going to be less text and more images to show off the landscape. TIC staff member Sophie Hughes told ScillyToday that the idea is to “let the pictures do the talking.”

The current designers, New Mind, have upgraded the site following industry concerns about its appearance and ease of use, and improvements will be phased in between now and May.

It’s likely to be a temporary fix. When the new tourism partnership takes over Julian Pearce believes they will make a new site a priority.
