Radio Scilly Granted Five-Year Licence Extension
Radio Scilly has been granted permission to continue broadcasting until September 2017, the regulator Ofcom has confirmed.
Community radio licences are issued on a 5-year basis and the islands’ local station was one of the first services to be awarded the right to broadcast in 2005. The station went on-air in September 2007.
During Radio Scilly’s first license period, the station was given the ‘South West Station of the Year’ award by a panel of BBC and commercial radio executives.
The station has also been a finalist in the radio ‘Oscars,’ the Sony awards.
Radio Scilly was a runner up in the Small Station Below 300,000 Potential Listener category.
