Yacht Rescued By Lifeboat Inside Harbour

St Mary's lifeboat station

A yacht has been rescued by St Mary’s lifeboat after drifting onto the rocks at Newford Island, inside the harbour.

The rescue occurred just after midnight on Tuesday 21st February.

The visiting yacht, Me-Go, with three persons on-board, had sailed into the harbour, but then lost engine power when approaching a mooring buoy and drifted onto the shore before the sails could be raised.

Rather than launch the Severn class lifeboat The Whiteheads, coxswain Peter Hicks used the D-Class boat and successfully towed the yacht away from the rocks and onto a mooring buoy in the harbour.
