Council’s Community Fund Available For Good Causes

The Council is encouraging islanders with a project or good cause to apply for a grant from their Community Fund.

Applicants can now download a new form on their website which Administration Officer, Sue Pritchard, says has ‘”improved” the service.

Money can be awarded for the purchase of equipment, works to buildings and improvements to premises but requests for grants towards salaries or running costs are usually turned down.

Previous recipients have been the Christmas Lights fund for St Mary’s, the Vet Support Group and the Folk Festival.

Regional or national charities are also unlikely to be supported unless it is for a specific project in the islands where there will be obvious benefit to Scilly.

There’s no upper limit for each candidate but with a total annual budget of £3000 for the fund, donations are for “smallish amounts only” says Sue.

Once an application is submitted, Councillors will discuss and vote for, or against, each request for support.
