Police Crack Down On Tax Dodgers

St Mary’s Police are cracking down on drivers who haven’t bought road tax.

Last week, officers found three cars on St Mary’s with out-of-date tax discs and all three owners have been reported.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says a further two motorists with tax documents which expired at the end of December 2011 have been granted “a couple of weeks grace” as he is “sure the owners will have their taxes in order very soon.”

With that comes a warning that police have not made an exhaustive search of the island yet.

Off-island drivers need not be concerned, as the roads are not maintained at public expense, so there’s no tax requirement, says Colin.
