Round Island Fog Horn Faulty

The Round Island lighthouse fog warning has been sounding constantly for the past two days, even though visibility has been fine.

Falmouth coastguard says their workers will be dispatched to investigate the problem, which is being caused by an electrical fault.

They have decided not to turn off the sound because they are uncertain whether that will also affect the light.

Surprisingly, they haven’t received many calls of complaint. Keith Bradford lives in one of the nearest homes to the fog horn on St Martin’s.

He says it hasn’t kept him or his family awake at night but it could become a problem if the wind changes to north or northwesterly as the sound will become more audible.
