Tribute Site To Feature Steamband

The history of Scilly’s longest performing music group, The Steamband, will soon be documented online in a tribute website.

A selection of images, photographed and collated by former resident Nick Browning and dating back to 1974, will soon go online.

And Nick says he’s looking for any additional images that locals may have to share. He says there are gaps in the collection from the time he was living in Canada, mainly around the mid to late 90s and early eighties, and he’s keen to add images from those periods.

Nick says one of his favourite images was taken by Harry Graham while the band were rehearsing at Maypole. He says the black and white photo, featuring David Parr, Gwyn Green, Derek Metcalfe, Terry Ward and Tommy Hicks, looks like the back cover of a Neil Young album.

Nick hopes the site will be up and running in a few months.

I’ve got some black and white photos of the Steamband playing upstairs in the Bishop and Wolf at my 18th birthday party in 1978. Lots of other folk in them , too. If they are any use to Nick, I’d be happy to scan and forward them to him, if he PM’s me with his e mail.
