Fin Whales Sighted Off Scilly

Two Fin Whales, the second largest animals on the planet, have been seen off Scilly’s coast.

They were spotted by passengers on a flight yesterday afternoon.

Paul Semmens who records wildlife sightings for the Steamship Company and the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust on the Scillonian III says the whales have been coming back each year since 1999 but sightings here remain rare.

There are good numbers off the south coast of Ireland in the Celtic Sea.

He hasn’t seen one around Scilly but the crew of the Gry Maritha usually report a sighting each winter.
