Agency To Fund Sea Defence Work On The Strand

The Strand

The Environment Agency is funding work to protect the sea defences along the Strand.

We understand that around £80,000 had already been allocated by the agency for work to repair and re-point the wall from Holgate’s Green as far as the pathway out to the lifeboat station.

However, the Council’s Climate Control Officer, David Senior, says they are currently negotiating for extra cash, following a more detailed works survey last year.

The Council’s Chief Technical Officer, Nevile Gardner, told us the work would not alter “the size, structure or overall appearance of the wall” but is intended to put it back into good order by filling in the voids that have developed in and behind the wall over time.

The work is likely to be done in stages.
