Charity Shop Busy As Last Minute Costumes Sought

The St Mary’s Church charity shop was a hive of activity yesterday afternoon as shoppers turned up to buy last-minute fancy dress items for this evening’s celebrations.

Organiser, Sue Hodgson told us they normally do well in the run up to the parties but yesterday had been one of the busiest afternoons she’d experienced for a while.

Sue says the charity shops before New Year’s Eve are always huge fun as people try on some bizarre outfits. And she says they can shift merchandise that might normally be a bit difficult to sell.

We caught up with local man Alan Hulbert as he was rifling through the clothes rails.

Alan, who had come to the charity shop for inspiration, pulled out a couple of ‘hippy’ t-shirts and was looking for velvet trousers and a wig to complete his outfit.

Sue says there was no obvious theme emerging although she thinks a couple of groups might be doing ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ this year.

And she says there were plenty of young men coming in to buy ladies clothing.

Sue and the ladies will be manning the charity shop again this morning from 10am to 12pm so everyone has another chance to get their outfits sorted.

Sue says there’s plenty of new merchandise and more bags were arriving as we spoke.
