Dorrien-Smith Has Worst Councillor Attendance Figures

Council Chambers at the Old Wesleyan Chapel

The league table showing this year’s attendance figures for our islands’ Councillors is out.

At the top of the list is Fred Ticehurst. The member for St Mary’s made it to every one of the 30 meetings he was meant to be at and even went to one committee as a voluntary observer.

That’s despite the challenges that living on Bryher and being 87 years of age bring.

Fred says he feels he should go to every meeting so he can represent his electors.

Councillor Richard McCarthy also had a 100% turnout record, going to all 36 of his committee sessions.

Bottom of the list was Tresco member, Robert Dorrien-Smith, who made just 4 of the 19 meetings he could have attended, a 21% attendance rate.

In 2009, Robert was disqualified as a Councillor for non-attendance for more than 6 months.

He was re-elected at the following election.
