Plans For Single Tourism Body Moved To Next Stage

Tourist Information Centre in Hugh Town

Plans to replace the three groups that handle Scilly tourism – Island Tourism, Island Marketing and the Tourist Information Centre – with a single body have moved to the next stage.

Consultants Blue Sale recommended the partnership between the private sector and the council in their recent report and the Task and Finish group has agreed the plan for the transition.

Julian Pearce from the Council’s Tourism Team says the steering group will now be looking at their constitution and funding sources to employ staff to run the body.

Recruitment to the board that will steer the changes is underway and Julian says they’ll appoint a paid Tourism Manager and the Board members may then face their own re-election.

Julian says they want to hear from willing candidates who feel they might be suitable for the role.
