Islands’ Support For Air Ambulance Remains Strong

Supporters of the Cornwall Air Ambulance in Scilly have donated over £23,000 so far this year.

The charity, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2012 and will be moving to a new base at Newquay airport, needs around £1.6m to fund annual operations.

The Trust has received £10,841 from the Islands in the past year, raised through raffles and donations, while Jan Guy has brought in over £12,500 through the charity’s lottery.

Long-time supporter and fundraiser Ange Jenkins looks after collection boxes and donations.

Ange is modest about her own input, saying she just “counts up the pennies” although she admits to losing track sometimes!

And she says Jan’s work with the Air Ambulance lottery collection is very much appreciated.

Ange says she finds it amazing that, despite the economy, both islanders and visitors are still giving very generously and she says people understand the importance of the service as a medical lifeline.
