Sport England Slow To Provide Sports Hall Funds

The new sports hall is set to open on 14th January but the grant agency that funded much of the facility still hasn’t stumped up the first cash payment for the project.

Sport England has been criticised in Council meetings for their slow response to funding requests and their requirement for volumes of information to be sent within a tight time frame.

The funder offered around £1.1 million to the Council to build the enlarged facility with four instead of two courts.

When Councillor Richard McCarthy asked whether the cash had been forthcoming, Chief Executive Philip Highgate told members that the phrase “ getting blood out of a stone” came to mind.
