Council Team To Resurface Porthmellon Road

The Council’s own direct labour team has been awarded the contract to rebuild the road on Porthmellon industrial estate.

The 221m resurfaced stretch will cost £123,000 but the Council will put in less than £13,000 as most has been sourced from European ERDF funds.

The new road will be concrete.

New ducting for broadband and electricity will also be installed, as well as signage throughout the estate, including a large new entrance sign with directions and business names.

At a recent Council meeting, Councillor Brian Lowen commented on the test area where some work has been undertaken and asked when the whole project will be finished.

Julian Pearce replied that he was aware of the complaints about the state of the road because he is based on the estate, at the Economic Development office, but no start date had been set yet.

Much of the material below the road surface came from the demolished former Holgate’s Hotel.
