Footpath To Be Diverted For Home Renovation

The renovation of a home alongside the Holy Vale to Longstone path will mean the diversion of the route used by many islanders and visitors.

Planners have approved the renovation of the house called Chy Mengleth by a couple intending to relocate from Yorkshire.

There will be the addition of a new extension to accommodate a substantial book collection.

The home was created from a barn in 1968 and the plan includes replacing the existing metal garage with a new garage and workshop.

The owners say they are mindful of the legacy of the late Mrs Banfield and intend tackling the brambles.

Planners felt the proposal would improve the overall character of building but Chief Planning Officer, Craig Dryden, questioned the scale of the new garage and wanted to negotiate on the size.

The footpath to Longstone bisects the grounds and would be re-sited around the site boundary. Councillor Roy Duncan pointed out that some paths had been lost over recent years and wanted planners to keep an eye on this popular route.
