Registry Office To Get Temporary Home At Old School

Former school site at Carn Thomas

Islanders and visitors will be married at the old secondary school next year.

The registry office is relocating there temporarily while the Schiller shelter, where services currently take place, is rebuilt as part of the Porthcressa Regeneration project.

Diana Mompoloki, strategic investment manager at the Council, says the library will also relocate to the empty school at Carn Thomas.

The current building is set to be demolished and three business units will be built on the site.

Plans to build local need accommodation on the first floor have been shelved for now because of a lack of funding but can be added at a later date.

Contractors Kier Western are set to redecorate and improve the entrance to the former school staff rooms and headteachers office in preparation for the move in three weeks. Disabled access will also be added.

The 44-week project at Porthcressa begins on December 12th.

Up to 40 builders will employed on the £4.5m scheme which will start with the landscaping of the seafront area, which will be completed by the end of the May.
