Local Representatives To Guide Health Centre Contract

St Mary's Health Centre

Islanders who have put themselves forward to help guide healthcare in Scilly had their first meeting with NHS bosses yesterday.

Volunteers have been found to sit on a steering committee that will select who manages the Health Centre on St Mary’s from next year.

The four candidates met with Rachel Crawley, a Senior Manager in the Primary Care team, to discuss what the role entails and the amount of commitment required.

Rachel says she’d like to appoint at least two people although she says nobody has “signed on the dotted line” yet.

The GP practice in Scilly is currently being provided under a temporary contract by Helston Medical Centre, which was due to finish next July.

The steering committee will decide who takes over the Health Centre and will guide the procurement process.

As well as the local representatives, it will also contain doctors, PCT representatives as well as HR and Finance experts.

Rachel says she expects the steering group to be up and running “in the next few weeks.”
