Successful Year For Ladies Lifeboat Guild

It’s been a successful season for St Mary’s Ladies Lifeboat Guild.

Members attending their AGM in The Mermaid heard their fundraising efforts had brought in £9,961.

Ce Hicks says the separate souvenir sales, arranged by Claire Jenkins, brought in an additional £18,100.

Ce has thanked the off-island support arranged by Eddie Birch on Tresco and Mandy Williams on St Martins.

Four local boys, Sam, Ethan, Sam and Cameron brought in £585 with a sponsored row to Samson. They intend another fundraiser in 2012 but their plans this summer were scuppered when Sam broke his arm.

The £4000 raised by Clare Lewis during the September inter-island walk will appear in next year’s accounts.

Some of the cash will go towards new and improved lifejackets, which are £350 each.

The Guild’s first event of the year will be he “Emergency Services Pasty Bake Off’, where emergency service workers will have to make a traditional Cornish miners pasty, sweet at one end, savoury at the other.

The event will be on Sat 21st January and tickets will be on sale nearer the time from the paper shop.
