Garrison Tennis Court Refurbishment Given Green Light

Overgrown bramble and bracken to be removed

The Isles of Scilly Tennis and Squash Club has been given the go ahead by planners to extend and resurface their court on the Garrison.

The club intends to increase the size of the court to 36m by 18m and remove the current concrete and tarmac base. This will be replaced with a green, artificial turf and sand surface, similar to Bryher’s multi-use games area and a new chain-link perimeter fence will be erected.

White markings for basketball and five–a–side football will be laid on the court.

The site landscaping will also be tidied up with new planting and removal of overgrown bracken and bramble bushes.

However, the proximity of the site to a scheduled ancient monument means archaeological examination needs to be performed before work begins.

There were letters of support from local hotels, including the nearby Star Castle, businesses and banks and the Duchy did not raise any objections.
