Tourism Bosses Hope For This Morning Boost

Phil Vickery from ITV's This Morning show

Tourism bosses are hoping a week long series of cookery shows set in Scilly and starting today will promote the islands and our local food.

ITV1’s This Morning is showing celebrity chef, Phil Vickery, cooking at Hell Bay Hotel with chef Glen Gatland and making pasties with Toby Tobin Dougan at St Martin’s Bakery.

The broadcast will also feature the St Martin’s Vineyard.

The cameras showed how visitors get to Scilly and caught the chef boarding a Skybus flight from Bristol and filmed his arrival at St Mary’s.

One of the reports show him going out on a gig at high tide between Tresco and Bryher.

Sophie Hughes from the Tourist Information Centre says there is “no better way to showcase fabulous food than in the inspirational landscape that it grows in.”

She added, “We hope that this coverage adds to the reputation of Scilly as a place where a landscape of distinction can be touch, felt and tasted.”

The Council tourism site, www.simplyscilly.co.uk will be highlighted on the This Morning website in a section about Phil’s island hop and recipe details will also be posted from his cooking at Hell Bay Hotel.

This Morning runs on ITV1 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
